Swedish outdoor brand Fjällräven has celebrated 50 years of the Greenland Jacket by revisiting the collection that started it all. As part of this jacket-led milestone, a special Kånken Greenland joined the line-up. It sits within “Greenland Updated”, a family of products shaped by a new generation living and working in Greenland—scientists and nature enthusiasts who base themselves on this remarkable island. Greenland also hosts the world’s second-largest ice sheet, which has a major role in the global climate system; its reflectivity and meltwater influence temperatures and ocean circulation. The collection nods to this context while staying practical and hard-wearing.

Kånken Greenland: what’s different
- Fabric: G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco for a slightly thicker, tougher hand than the classic Kånken.
- Finish: weather resistance without perfluorocarbons (PFCs).
- Details: striped webbing that ties back to the Greenland series, with the familiar square profile and simple organisation.

Why Greenland still matters
The original Greenland Jacket was designed to handle wind, showers and abrasion without fuss. Today’s range keeps the same idea: reliable shells and bags that work from coast paths to city streets. G-1000 Eco (recycled polyester and organic cotton) forms the base, chosen for toughness, breathability and the option to tune protection with wax on exposed zones.
How to tune performance
For unsettled forecasts, apply a light coat of Greenland Wax to shoulders, sleeves and hems on jackets, and to pocket fronts or high-wear areas on bags. Keep high-heat zones lighter to maintain airflow. Pocket layouts remain practical: hand pockets for quick access; larger compartments sized for daily kit.
