About Patagonia Fishing Clothing & Accessories

We also stock waterproof bags and gloves that shield electronics, tackle, and hands from the elements when conditions turn harsh. Waders use multi-layer nylon with a waterproof breathable membrane designed for repair when punctured. Fishing jackets use recycled polyester shells with sealed seams. Vests and packs use hard-wearing nylon built to handle hooks, flies and wet conditions season after season.

What to Wear for a Day's Fishing

UK river and stillwater conditions change quickly. Here is a practical kit list using the Patagonia fishing range, organised from skin outward.

Base Layer

Start with a moisture-wicking base layer. Capilene midweight works well in cooler months, while Capilene Cool suits warmer conditions. Avoid cotton — it holds moisture against the skin and takes a long time to dry, which makes you cold fast.

Midlayer

A lightweight fleece adds warmth without restricting casting movement. The R1 is a strong choice for active wading because it manages moisture well. On colder days, a Nano Puff vest or jacket provides insulation while keeping your arms free and unhindered for casting.

Waders

Swiftcurrent chest waders are the backbone of the Patagonia fishing range. They use the H2No Performance Standard for full waterproofing with breathable comfort over long sessions. Getting the right size is important — a poor fit creates friction points that wear through the membrane over time. Use our Patagonia Wader Sizing Guide to find the correct chest, inseam and foot measurements.

Outer Layer

A fishing-specific waterproof jacket sits over the top of your waders. Patagonia's fishing jackets feature higher hand-warmer pockets (positioned above the wader chest line), shorter front hems to reduce drag in the water, and reach-through chest pockets for fly boxes. These details make a noticeable difference compared to a standard waterproof shell.

Accessories

A sun-protective hat or cap is useful year-round. Fingerless gloves or fishing-specific gloves keep your hands workable in cold conditions. A sling pack or fishing vest keeps fly boxes, tippet, leaders and tools accessible without needing to return to the bank.

Care

Rinse all gear with fresh water after each session, especially after saltwater use. For detailed wader maintenance, see our guide: How to Care for Your Patagonia Waders.
