Frequently Asked Questions

What do the three-letter size codes mean?

Each Patagonia wader size uses a three-letter code. The first letter indicates the overall size (S = Small, M = Medium, L = Large, X = Extra Large, 2 = Double XL, 3 = Triple XL). The second letter indicates the inseam length (X = Extra Short, S = Short, R = Regular, L = Long). The third letter indicates the foot size group (S = Small, M = Medium, L = Large). For example, MRM means Medium body, Regular inseam, Medium foot.

Do the measurements in the chart refer to my body or the wader itself?

All measurements refer to body size, not the finished garment. Patagonia builds in the necessary ease for movement and layering. Measure yourself and match the numbers in the chart rather than trying to estimate garment dimensions.

What does "girth" mean in the size chart?

Girth refers to your largest circumference measurement — whichever is biggest out of your chest, waist or hips. Measure around the fullest point in each area and use the highest number when comparing against the chart.

Should I size up to allow room for layering?

Not usually. Patagonia wader sizing already accounts for a reasonable amount of layering underneath. If you plan to wear particularly thick base layers or insulated trousers in cold conditions, consider moving up one size in girth. For most UK river fishing with standard base layers, the chart measurements should work as given.

What if my measurements fall between two sizes?

If you sit between sizes, prioritise the girth and inseam measurements over height. A correct fit through the body and legs matters more than overall height. If in doubt, sizing up slightly is usually better than going too tight, as excess material is easier to manage than restricted movement.

How do I measure my inseam for waders?

Stand in bare feet on a flat surface. Measure from your crotch straight down to the floor along the inside of your leg. Use a tape measure held taut but not pulled tight. This gives you the inseam length to match against the chart. It is worth getting someone else to help, as the measurement is easier to take accurately with two people.
