Filson accessories at The Sporting Lodge, an official UK stockist. Caps and hats are the deepest part of it — the Insulated Packer hat for cold, waxed Tin Cloth caps for wet, and lighter logger and trucker mesh caps for summer. Ballard watch caps cover the knitted end. Outfitter leather wallets and the Double Prong and Togiak belts complete it. Most of it uses the same tin cloth, leather and Mackinaw wool as the jackets and bags.
Headwear is the largest part of the range and it splits by weather. The Insulated Packer hat is the cold-weather option — a full brim that keeps rain off your collar as well as your face, which a cap does not. Waxed Tin Cloth caps shed showers and wear in the same way the jackets do, stiffening in cold and softening with use. Logger and trucker mesh caps are the summer end, vented at the back for working in heat. Ballard watch caps cover the knitted side for proper winter.
Filson wallets and belts
The Outfitter card wallet is the slim option — bridle-weight leather that darkens with handling rather than cracking, sized for cards and notes without the bulk of a billfold. Belts run from the Double Prong, which is the workwear buckle made to take a load, to the Togiak in a lighter weight for everyday. Leather is the part of the Filson range that improves most visibly with age, which is why these are worth buying once rather than replacing.
Choosing Filson accessories for British weather
The rule is the same as for the jackets: waxed cotton for wet, wool for cold, mesh and canvas for warm. A Tin Cloth cap will see off a shower but is not waterproof, so for a full day of rain a brimmed Packer hat or a hood does more. Wool watch caps insulate even when damp, which matters more here than in a dry cold. And leather wants an occasional conditioning rather than a soaking — wipe it down and let it dry away from heat.
Filson Accessories FAQs
Caps and hats in waxed Tin Cloth, wool and mesh; knitted watch caps; leather wallets and card holders; belts; and dog gear including collars, leads and beds. Bags and luggage have their own collection.
A waxed Tin Cloth cap will shed a shower and keep its shape, but it is water-resistant rather than waterproof. For sustained rain a brimmed hat such as the Insulated Packer does more, because it keeps water off your neck as well as your face, where a peaked cap funnels it straight down your collar.
The Packer is a full-brim hat, insulated and shaped to hold its form, intended for cold and wet days in open country. A Tin Cloth cap is a peaked cap in waxed cotton, lighter, packable, and better under a hood. Choose the Packer for weather, the cap for convenience.
Not often. The leather used in the wallets and belts is designed to darken and soften with handling rather than crack. An occasional wipe and a light conditioner once or twice a year is enough. What it does not want is soaking or drying near a radiator.
Most of the caps are adjustable and fit a broad range. The knitted watch caps are one size and stretch. Structured hats such as the Packer come in sizes, so check the guide on the product page before ordering.
