Filson vests and gilets

Vests do more work in a British autumn than most people expect — they keep the core warm while leaving the arms free, which matters when you are casting, loading or just carrying something. Filson's run from the Dry Tin vest in waxed cotton for wet ground, through fishing vests cut with front storage you can reach without looking, to insulated work vests for standing still in cold. A vest layers under a shell without the bulk of a second jacket, and over a shirt it will often do the job of one on its own.

Filson knitwear and fleece

The Bristol shawl neck is the piece most people arrive for: heavyweight knit, a collar that actually keeps the wind out, and a cut that works over a shirt without looking like a mid-layer. The pile fleece pullover is the warmer, lighter alternative — deep pile that traps air and dries quickly, which suits damp cold better than a smooth fleece does. Waffle knit thermals sit underneath both. All of it is cut to go under a jacket, so allow for that when choosing a size.

Filson tees, trousers and shorts

The graphic tees carry Filson's own artwork rather than a logo slapped on a blank, and they are heavier cotton than most branded tees, which is why they hold shape after washing. Fenimore twill trousers are the workwear cut — reinforced where trousers wear through, roomy enough to move in. Oakville canvas and Green River shorts cover summer, the latter quick-drying for water. Sizing across all of it follows Filson's American conventions, so the traditional cuts run roomy.
