Better Sweater has a knit-look outer face that passes easily in town and work settings. The interior is a soft fleece lining that holds warmth well. It is heavier than the R1 and Synchilla, so it works best as a standalone layer in mild cold or a midlayer under a jacket on colder days. Available in full-zip, quarter-zip and vest styles.

Synchilla

Best for: Light layering, relaxed outdoor use, travel.

Synchilla is Patagonia's original recycled polyester fleece and one of its lightest. It is soft, dries quickly, and adds warmth without bulk. Because it is thinner than Better Sweater, it layers more neatly under shells and jackets. A solid choice if you want a packable fleece that handles a wide range of temperatures when combined with other layers.

R1

Best for: Active use, hiking, running, cycling, climbing.

R1 uses a Polartec Power Grid fabric with an open-grid interior that moves moisture away from the skin faster than any other Patagonia fleece. It is the most performance-focused option in the range — lighter and more breathable than Better Sweater, with less insulation but far better moisture management during high-output activity. Choose R1 when you need a midlayer that keeps up with your pace.
