Wigwam is an American sock maker with roots going back to 1905. Founded in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the brand built its name on durable hosiery made for hard use. Although Wigwam is no longer part of the current range at The Sporting Lodge, it remains a notable name in the history of performance socks. If you are looking for current options, start with the socks and underwear collection.
How Wigwam started
Wigwam was founded by Herbert Chesebro, Robert Ehany and Lawrence Bentz after the Sheboygan Knitting Company, where they had worked, was destroyed by fire. The new business quickly found a place supplying socks to local workers who needed dependable knitwear for daily wear and outdoor use.
During the war years, much of Wigwam’s production shifted towards socks for troops overseas. In the years that followed, the company expanded into a broader hosiery range while keeping its focus on comfort, durability and practical design.
Why Wigwam socks were well regarded
Wigwam became known for making socks that were built to last. That made the brand a natural fit for walking, work and everyday wear. If you are browsing current alternatives, the men’s socks and underwear collection and the women’s socks collection are the most relevant live pages to explore.
Good socks still make a real difference to comfort, warmth and long days on your feet, especially when worn with boots and country footwear. While Wigwam is no longer stocked here, the same demand for durable, comfortable socks continues across the current range.
