Photographer of the Day: Jack Harding

Tell us a bit about you and your background:

I’m British, born in a small town in North Yorkshire and spent most of my childhood playing football or in nature. I decided to skip university as I wasn’t entirely sure about where I wanted to go with my career. As an automotive fanatic, I moved into sales jobs across the industry for Nissan and BMW. During 2015 I moved to Sweden to work for a bank and that’s when my photography journey took off!

What was your motivation to start photography?

After a six month trip across Australia and South East Asia in 2014, I began to be interested much more in travel. I decided to buy a professional camera in 2015 and shortly after moved to Sweden for a job for a bank called Klarna. I began following accounts on Instagram, which were often in the mountains and found myself drooling over images of Norway on a daily basis. Of course, living in Sweden meant that Norway was just a stone throw away. I was fortunate enough to have a boss who loved photography and was keen to see me pursue my dream.

How would you describe your photography style?

It’s an ever-changing style which has gone through the cycle that many of us experience. I started as a lover of architecture and street photography. Moving onto the mountains and landscapes of Norway and finally adding the human element and capturing real-life moments.

What is your favourite subject to photograph and why?

I enjoy photographing people and automotive scenes. It’s even better if they’re together! I also have a huge satisfaction in being in front of the camera and directing my assistant. I love flowing my creative ideas into the brain of my assistant.

What is your biggest creature comfort when you’re away?

Good coffee, if I can find the right coffee on my travels, I can feel right at home in just a moment. It just starts the day a different way.

What is next for you and your photography?

2020 has meant a lot of changes, and I am focusing on UK based projects. I cannot say too much, but most projects are creating commercial photography and videography for high-end automotive, whisky and watch brands. There is also a massive push on my photography workshops as I continue to support others on their photography journey.
